Reports from multiple sources indicate that Apple is in talks with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) over the latter’s 20 nanometer fabrication facility. CNET contacted its industry sources to confirm this report, which the sources blame on fallout between the two companies, due to recent string of litigations on patent infringements. If Apple does decide to go with TSMC, device with 20nm chips may start appearing by the end of next year. The same source told CNET that Apple is also talking with Intel for chips based on 14 nanometer fabrication process. Meanwhile, Apple or Samsung have remained silent on these rumors.

Market seer IHS has published another ominous forecast about PC sales in this year. The firm expects the total PC market in 2012 to contract by 1.2 percent to 348.7 million units, down from 352.8 million in 2011. The last time PC sales recorded a similar decline was in 2001, the year when the markets were busted by the dot com crash. The firm factored their forecast on global economic uncertainty, and the shift in consumer interest away from PC and towards mobile devices. IHS also reported possibility of a rebound in 2013, on the back of revived consumer interest brought on by Windows 8 and ultra-thin laptops. In 2013, the company sees this configuration of PCs in close contention with smartphones and tablet PCs.

The Centre for Railway Information Service (CRIS) has launched a web service that gives information about a train’s location, and its schedule status. The service is running in beta at railradar.trainenquiry.com, and it is currently programmed to track 6,500 of the total 10,000 trains operated by the Indian Railways. Rail Radar gives information about a train’s arrival at the various stops on its route, and displays its location on the country’s map.

The RailRadar system works on a series on 6,000 monitoring stations that update the servers with time of a train’s arrival in its zone. The system has been designed to refresh information every five minutes; however, practically the time between updates could be more depending on the train’s location. The web service has been designed to work with mobile platforms, which reportedly has accounted for 20% of traffic.
