Market seer IHS has published another ominous forecast about PC sales in this year. The firm expects the total PC market in 2012 to contract by 1.2 percent to 348.7 million units, down from 352.8 million in 2011. The last time PC sales recorded a similar decline was in 2001, the year when the markets were busted by the dot com crash. The firm factored their forecast on global economic uncertainty, and the shift in consumer interest away from PC and towards mobile devices. IHS also reported possibility of a rebound in 2013, on the back of revived consumer interest brought on by Windows 8 and ultra-thin laptops. In 2013, the company sees this configuration of PCs in close contention with smartphones and tablet PCs.
